One of the great things about being a creative person for so long is that we can get lost within the possibilities of a new venture. What I mean by that is that I can see myself in a lot of different situations, and it’s not always easy to just say, “I’m going to do this.” Especially when it’s a project you’ve been working on for so long.
It was a good example of that. I was a junior associate member at a consulting firm, but I was really into my job and wanted to get some other projects going. But I didn’t want to just jump into something new and start pitching my ideas. I wanted to be a part of the process.
I think what I learned from this project is that the best way to do that is to involve your team and have them help you think about what you want to do, and what you expect the outcome of that to be, and what you have to do to get there. That is, you have to do all of that in a way that is as simple as possible and lets you be creative, and also lets other people involved in the project participate fully.
That’s pretty much how I did it. I pitched a lot, and I think I got a lot of people involved with the prototype, but I was always trying to be so flexible in what I asked them to do and how they helped me, that I never really felt they were always right in what they did.
I think it’s very hard for a single person to be able to do everything, and to be able to let people participate fully is the first step. It’s not a matter of “I did this, but you did that.” It’s like “I did this, but you did that.
cisco turbonomic is a great example of how it’s harder than it looks. The prototype I pitched had six people involved, two designers, and two testers. I think its important that the cisco turbonomic prototype has the same flexibility I did, because there are enough players that it makes it hard to tell who did what.
There’s a lot more to it than this. There’s a LOT more to it than the demo, but I think its still a good starting point. Because what I’d like to do, is to have more players, which is one of the things that I find annoying. I think the first five prototype games will be good games. I’m sure I’d have to have a few more people, but that’s probably only for the demo.
If you’re looking to play a prototype game with a decent number of players, then you’ll have to go with a demo. A demo can be just as fun as a finished, finished game if you just play it a lot. It’s just you can’t see how much fun it is until you play it a lot.
The demo is the only way to play a prototype game because the developers aren’t ready to show it to anyone. Its not like a game jam where the developers are going to release it on the internet. If they want to show the cisco turbonomic demo to the public, theyll have to give the demo as a complete game and show it to as many people as possible to let the public play it. The demo is the only way to play a prototype game.
I think it is safe to say that we wouldnt have known the level of fun we were having through the cisco turbonomic demo if it hadnt been leaked. Its not something we would have been able to test out if we played Deathloop for ourselves. We wouldnt have known there was a story to play through or that there was a game to play if we hadnt played the cisco turbonomic demo.
