A big part of the reason that many people are reluctant to answer their own questions is that they are afraid of being called liars. They don’t fear being criticized in general. They love to hear the negative news that the rest of us are in a position to get the benefit of the doubt.
And as we’ve said many times before, fear is one of the greatest motivators for behavior. This is especially true when it comes to sharing information. Some people claim that a question doesn’t actually exist unless you have an answer to it. That’s an oversimplification, because if you don’t have an answer, you can’t possibly be wrong. If you are wrong, you’re wrong.
Most people in today’s society don’t want to be in the habit of sharing information, but they do want to be in the habit of sharing facts. We are all biased, and many people who actually know about the data they have are just as biased. If you have a data friend that you share with many others, you can be in a much better place than you were in a time loop of that information.
