As you can see from the title, I’m going to start by talking about research methods because these are two of my favorite things. I want to explore the research methods that psychologists use to evaluate a world of information. I’m not talking about a world of information that is completely out there. I’m talking about a world that is made up of information, of facts, of stories.
If you have a world in which you only know about 50% of the information then you can’t do a good job evaluating it. What Im talking about is the world in which you have thousands of facts and stories that you use to make inferences about the world.
You can use a lot of different methods to evaluate a world of information. For instance, you can use “expert judgment”. This is the type of judgment that professors from the school of psychology use to evaluate a world of information.
Experts are people with a lot of training and who are generally knowledgeable about their field of study. They can do useful things like form groups, perform group tasks (such as evaluating other groups, seeing how they act, etc.), and perform other kinds of group tasks.
The problem is that the world of information is a broad field, it can include anything from a high-school biology text to the Wikipedia article on the U.S. Constitution to the Wikipedia article on the world’s greatest movie. The world of information is huge enough that most people have some idea of how to evaluate information, but most people don’t have a lot of training in their field.
This is why it is so hard for psychologists to create models that are good and useful. This is why they are often so overworked (it would be a lot less stressful and time-consuming if they had fewer people with more complex jobs), and why they are sometimes not very good at their jobs.
