But for most of us, we don’t think about this. It’s our default, our autopilot state. The more we think about it, the less aware we are. That is, we are aware of ourselves, but we are not aware of ourselves. This is the same thing with self-awareness. When we get back from the mall, we are aware we are shopping, we are aware of our surroundings, and we are aware of ourselves.

This kind of awareness is something we all have to deal with at one time or another. But when we have self-awareness we can then take control of our behaviors and our actions so we can improve our self-awareness. For most of us, we can take the time to practice this. That is, when we are aware of ourselves, we can then use that self awareness to improve our behaviors so we can become more aware of ourselves.

In a sense, self-awareness is the same as self-regulation. When we are self-aware we can then use self-awareness to improve our behaviors so we can become more aware of ourselves.
